Having made use of a few Bokeh plots in my last few posts, I started playing around with the Bokeh Server. The idea here is to be able to create interactive visualisations, where not only can you manipulate the plot shown by panning and zooming, you can also change what is being show completely.
This requires that a Bokeh script is running on the server that can interface between the browser and the python that generates the plot, and so a bit more setup is required. However, the payoff is a way to explore a data set much more quickly.
Making use of the CIA data set again, I made my Factbook Explorer to allow you to have a look through all of the data yourself. You can choose what to plot on the x and y axes, normalise variables by population, and choose whether to view the result on linear or log scaled axes. Here’s a snapshot:
